This year, Grantham Choral Society will be performing one major concert in the Spring of 2009, its traditional Come and Sing Carols services at Christmas and will be taking part in a Remembrance Day concert organised by the Army on behalf of the Royal Army Benevolent Fund.

All our performances will be under the guidance of our Musical Director, Philip Robinson

Remembrance Day Concert:

Instead of mounting our own concert this Autumn we agreed to take part in a concert organised by the Army in aid of the Army Benevolent Fund on the evening of Remembrance Day, Tuesday November 11th, in St Wulfram’s Church. The army band was that of the Parachute Regiment conducted by Warrant Officer Class One Esther Freeborn.

The programme was a varied one and included three contributions from the choir - Parry’s I was glad and the Hallelujah Chorus from Messiah (Handel) conducted by our Musical Director Philip Robinson, and In these stones horizons sing by Carl Jenkins conducted by W O Esther Freeborn.

This was a ‘first’ for the Choral Society, singing with a military wind band, and we all thoroughly enjoyed the evening and were much appreciative of their superb musicianship.

Come and Sing Carols:

Our annual Carol concerts are held at ChristChurch, Finkin Street, Grantham on Tuesday 16th December at 7:30pm and Wednesday 17th December at 7:30pm.

Guest performers:
Tuesday night: The National Church of England Primary School Choir and the newly formed St Wulfram's Chamber Choir.
Wednesday night: Gonerby Hill Foot Church of England Primary School Choir and the Grantham Choral Society Youth Choir.

Mezzo soprano Victoria Gray will be a guest soloist on both evenings and there will also be a reading by the Minister, the Reverend Lesley Taylor.

Admission is by programme available from Clark’s Shoe Shop (High Street, Grantham), H H Cox Outfitters (Westgate, Grantham), The Guildhall Box Office (St. Peter's Hill, Grantham) and members of the Society for £6.00, children free.

Choral Workshop on Bach's St Matthew Passion:

The 2009 workshop will take place from 10:00am - 4:00pm on Saturday 7th February. This workshop is led by Richard Roddis (who will sing the Evangelist in our Spring Concert) and our musical director Philip Robinson. Anyone is welcome, not just society members, and the fee for the day will be £12.00. More details will be available later.
