2005-2006 Season

This was a performance of Bach’s Mass in B Minor and was a great success with a large and enthusiastic audience in St Wulfram’s Church, Grantham. The orchestra was Musica Donum Dei, a baroque orchestra who play on period instruments or faithful copies; the Leader was Diane Terry.

Our soloists were Kate Semmens—soprano, James Gumpert—counter tenor, Richard Roddis—tenor and John Rayfield—bass.

The conductor was our musical director Philip Robinson in his last concert with us before leaving to go to the well-known girl’s choir Cantamus (who he will accompany on a tour of China in the summer).

We were all so pleased that this concert was such a success for Philip. He had only been with our choir for five seasons but he made an enormous impact on us in that short time due to his considerable musicianship and natural gift of communicating his requirements in the nicest possible way. We have thoroughly enjoyed having him and we have benefited very much from his tenure and we wish him well with Cantamus. On the Tuesday following the concert at a Society social evening we presented Philip with a piano stool as a parting gift and mark of appreciation.
