Youth Choir
Now about to start it's seventh season the Youth Choir has won it's class on four occasions and came second twice in the annual Grantham Music Festival. This year it gave a very good account of itself but was beaten into second place by the St Wulfram's Chamber Choir.
Rehearsals take place at the Central College of Technology, Rushcliffe Road, Grantham, NG31 8ED (Google Map) before the main choir rehearses, on Tuesday evenings at 6.30pm, the first rehearsal for the new season will be on the 14th September 2010. The choir will be taking part in both Carol concerts this year and are again entering the Grantham Music Festival.
Later this year in the Summer, the GCS Youth Choir will be on Tour! Together with the St Wulfram's Chamber Choir, some members will be departing for Germany where they will performing concerts in Dusseldorf amongst other cities.
The repertoire includes spirituals and youth choir arrangements of well-known songs that are always fun to sing. The choir works towards concerts and festival performances. We are always looking for new members to join this very successful choir so, if you enjoy singing and are aged between 11 and 19 years of age please come and join them — they are a really friendly group of young people.
It is important to thank our generous sponsors which has meant no membership fee is charged for joining the Youth Choir. In the
beginning financial support from Grantham College was invaluable and allowed us to form the Youth Choir. Last season we received sponsorship from Lincolnshire Community Foundation, Sleaford (a government grant) and also the Grantham Rotary Club. This season Grantham Rotary Club have again very generously sponsored the Youth from funds raised by their wonderful annual Swimarathon. In fact, a team from the Youth Choir took part in the Swimarathon this year and raised a substantial sum of money which makes them partly self-supporting!
