Subject: Appointment of Assistant Musical Director

We are very pleased to extend a warm welcome to Tim Williams to this new post. Tim is a Cambridge graduate and he is the organist and choir master of St Wulfram’s Church. His duties as far as the Choral Society are concerned will be to share rehearsals with Philip Robinson, particularly of the St Matthew Passion, when the choir divides into two choruses, and to be the Musical Director of the Youth Choir. A biography of Tim Williams can be found here.

Subject: Refreshment arrnangements at the Spring Concert 2009

For the last two concerts we have run a wine bar in St Wulfram’s Church before the concert, during the interval and after the concert which has been very popular. For the Spring Concert performance of Bach’s St Matthew Passion this season on March 28th 2009 however we have decided that a bar would not be appropriate. We are sure that patrons will understand.

Subject: The return of our President Philip Robinson as temporary Musical Director.

We are delighted to welcome Philip back as our MD. He very kindly agreed to help us for an interim period while a permanent MD is appointed. This means that Philip will be MD for the 2008-2009 season and at least part of the following season as well.

Subject: Resignation of our Musical Director, Simon Bell.

Simon’s application for the position of Assistant Organist and Choir Master at Winchester Cathedral was succesful and so he has now left Southwell Minster and resigned from Grantham Choral Society to take up his new post in September. This is a more challenging and adventurous role for him and he is relishing the new opportunities. Simon has been with us for two short but invaluable years; we have learned a lot from him and we will miss him greatly. We knew when he accepted our appointment that it would, out of necessity, be for a short-term since he would always need to be looking to further his main career but we are very fortunate to have had his expertise for even a short time.  We all wish him every success in his new post.
