Grantham Choral Society's
2023 Concert Season

Grantham Choral Society's Summer Social and Autumn Workshop 2023

GCS members gathered in Manthorpe’s beautiful St John the Evangelist Church in July for our summer social.  Over a glass of wine, we had the chance to showcase (show off?) some of the pieces we had looked at and listened to in our informal summer season with our Musical Director, David Humphreys.  Over May and June, we’ve covered a range of early European music from Plainsong to Purcell, with appropriate attention to local man William Byrd in this, the 400th anniversary of his death.  The audience of friends and family were treated to an impromptu performance of Victoria’s Nunc Dimittis, Byrd’s Ave Verum Corpus, and To the Hills and the Vales from Purcell’s Dido and Aeneas.  The summer season was a great success which we hope to repeat in future years.  Our (only slightly) more formal autumn season starts again on Saturday 2nd Sept with a morning workshop to introduce the autumn repertoire, with weekly rehearsals from Tuesday 5th Sept at 7:30pm in Harrowby Lane Methodist Church.  Please click here to view photos.

Review of our previous concert -

Grantham Choral Society's Spring concert included both Mozart's 'Vespers' and Vivaldi's 'Magnificat'.  "At a time when choral singing in England is generally under threat of philistine funding-cuts never has the old adage 'use it or lose it' been more appropriate. The Choral Society serves Grantham very well. Happy anniversary!"

COME & SING

Rutter ‘Requiem’

Good Friday, 29th March, 2024, at Bottesford Parish Church
